Our latest commissioned work with Accion Latina and El Tecolote revolves around the paper’s namesake. In a celebratory mood, Dustin and Fatima decided an aesthetic and functional upgrade to the entryway of Accion Latina and El Tecolote’s gallery space was a necessary move. It only made sense that this project would be inspired by el tecolote, or the owl. Dustin’s inspiration for the design of the owl came from the local, California barn owl. To emulate this species coloration closely, Dustin sourced vintage tiles from Latch Tile and played around with laying the tiles in a mosaic design to achieve the natural variation. In order to differentiate the head and clawed feet from the body, Dustin chose a stone tile with a unique blue black tone. The surrounding stone tiles, in a lighter shade giving the owl contrast, are travertine and had been installed by Roman Castanon, one of Little Feet’s Creatives.

In the spirit of spooky fun, Little Feet held its first Pumpkin Carving Contest this year. All of our Creatives spent an afternoon enjoying some simple jack-o-lantern carving and invited their families to join in the reveal and judging. The clock ran for a total of 2hrs of carving time from start to finish! Of course, at times you need to brainstorm out loud and our team demonstrated their great collaborative skills by offering advice to each other throughout the contest. Once all the squash had been carved and presented, our Creatives enjoyed some refreshments while waiting for the kids to show up and pick their favorites from the patch. We had a few traditional carvings and some out of the box ones, literally. Ultimately, the kids chose two winners but it’s not all about winning for Little Feet Creatives. We like to encourage innovative thinking and come together to enjoy a few laughs. From our family to yours, have a safe and fun Halloween!
