Our latest commissioned work with Accion Latina and El Tecolote revolves around the paper’s namesake. In a celebratory mood, Dustin and Fatima decided an aesthetic and functional upgrade to the entryway of Accion Latina and El Tecolote’s gallery space was a necessary move. It only made sense that this project would be inspired by el tecolote, or the owl. Dustin’s inspiration for the design of the owl came from the local, California barn owl. To emulate this species coloration closely, Dustin sourced vintage tiles from Latch Tile and played around with laying the tiles in a mosaic design to achieve the natural variation. In order to differentiate the head and clawed feet from the body, Dustin chose a stone tile with a unique blue black tone. The surrounding stone tiles, in a lighter shade giving the owl contrast, are travertine and had been installed by Roman Castanon, one of Little Feet’s Creatives.
